They're cutting down our oak trees! I woke up and there were surveyors on my property!
These similar comments have been occurring more and more frequently in the Democrat and on the news stations. Unfortunately by the time a project gets to the tree cutting stage it's usually too late to do much about saving those old oaks or a landmark structure.
So what can be done to prevent the stress and expense of trying to undo something that has been in the works for years?
Keep tabs on the projects scheduled by your City and County Commission!
They really make it easy. The City of Tallahassee has a comprehensive website at talgov.com. On the main menu bar the forth tab over is "OUR CITY". Click on the Our City tab and you will see "Current Projects" in the second column near the top. Click on Current Projects and you will see the list of capital projects (on-going and scheduled) for the City of Tallahassee. These include everything from park construction to drainage improvements.
The main project page gives you a brief overview of the project. Click on the project and you will get a detail report of the specifications and status of the project. If you still have questions, try contacting your Neighborhood Services Coordinator (which even I didn't realize we had).
From the talgov.com site:
"Your Neighborhood Services Coordinators
Each neighborhood within City of Tallahassee boundaries has a Neighborhood Services Coordinator (NSC) assigned to it. It is the role of NSC’s to serve as a liaison between neighborhoods and the city; helping residents to effectively access and use City services and get issues or questions resolved more efficiently. NSC’s can also help with broader neighborhood planning efforts and connecting to other community resources. Not sure who your Neighborhood Services Coordinator is? Call 850-891-8795 or email neighborhoods@talgov.com."
Get Informed and you can be an agent of change!
